What is your impression of Telemachus after the first three books of The Odyssey? What does he do in particular that gives you a clear idea of the kind of boy he is?

  1. Telemachus is a boy who is going into man hood but througout his life he never really had a strong father figure considering the fact that his father had been gone since he was super young. He is used to allowing other people take control, he is also atleast in the begining kind of a coward. Telemachus must go in search oof his father because he can not take care of the suiters himself. However he is loyal to his mother, he wont ever kick her out of the house and he doesnt want her to get married again because she doesnt want to and some strange man would get to be king. So to sum it up Telemachus is a boy on his way to manhood however he is still slightly a coward but loyal to his mother and father.

  2. Telemachus, to me seems like a adolescent who has yet to grasp the idea of what responsibilities his family and age hold. Telemachus is so used to the idea of people being there to protect him, be it through arms or reputation, that when his current situation involving his mother, Penelope and her suitors, he is reluctant to take any action. Telemachus shows promise in relieving himself from these unfortunate practices by agreeing to set sail and search for his father, but even then, he is riddled with insecurity and an unwillingness to approach problems under his own power. Telemachus shows knowledge, wisdom, hospitality, and above all possibility, but is hindered by his expectancy of his royal and heroic lineage as an answer to his problems.
